About SoDMA Open Data Portal
This is the official open data portal for the Somali Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA), the Federal Government of Somalia's disaster response agency. Our mission is to enhance disaster planning, response, and related management efforts by providing easy access to critical geospatial data.
SoDMA was initially established in 2011, and its mandate was formalised through law in 2016 under the then Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management. In 2022, SoDMA assumed the full responsibilities of the former Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. This portal is an ongoing commitment to data sharing and empowering stakeholders with the information they need to build a more resilient Somalia.
We encourage you to explore and utilise the available datasets in your work to support disaster preparedness, response, and sustainable development.
How are the datasets on SoDMA Open Data Portal collected?
Built on the CKAN platform, this portal serves as a central repository for the management and visualization of geospatial information. We currently harvest data from key sources, including:
- ICPAC Geoportal: Providing regional climate and environmental data.
- FAO's SWALIM Geoportal: Offering valuable water and land information for Somalia.
- Other relevant data portals: Expanding our collection with data crucial for effective disaster management.
